My day began – and was highlighted by – an amazing round of golf at Wailea Golf Club’s Gold course. Again paired with a few good friends, I had one of my most memorable golf days ever. I shot a 42 on the front nine. And I began the back nine with a string of four consecutive pars, registering seven in all, and one birdie. With an 84 on one of the most challenging courses (and relatively long at 6,400 yards) in Hawaii, I was quite proud of myself. No, I was VERY proud of myself!

So, I bought this shirt as my gift to myself.

The course was immaculate and gorgeous. Literally every hole could have been a signature hole. There were ocean views all along the course.

And the course architect worked wonders with the volcanic rock that was indigenous to the area.

After the round, the smile never left my face for the rest of the day, and some of the other golfers managed to tell most everyone on the ship about my success - probably because I'm usually such an horrific golfer!
I had dinner that night on Front Street. On the way to the restaurant, we stopped in a gallery of metal sculptures (DeRubeis 808-727-0214) where I had earlier admired a giraffe entitled Olivia, by Nano Lopez. This beautiful bronze creation was being sold for $30,000, but we negotiated the price down to $18,500, before advising the shopkeeper we had to discuss it over dinner. It sure was a beautiful piece, but perhaps not the ideal selection for us.
Anyway, dinner at Kimo’s was wonderful. I enjoyed marlin, something one usually does not see on a menu in the United States. But the real selling point of this restaurant was its proximity to the ocean and the Maui sunset.

After dinner, we all enjoyed a slow walk back to the tender and a moonlight cruise to the ship.
84 – wow, that’s good!
